Should Plastic Bags be Banned?

In Wales, the city put up a project a month ago that allows people to suggest new laws for the Welsh assembly to create. There were three panels chosen by the project and the 1st idea was to ban plastic bags getting 350 votes. People who had voted said that the supermarkets would like this law to pass since it costs them more to give out plastic bags. They've also stated that if this law is enforced starting in Wales, it is likely that the whole Britian then the whole Europe would be influence by this and help the environment.

I think this law would be a big impact in society because people all over the world use plastic bags on a daily bases. This law should definitely be created. I always think that plastic bags aren't necessary and is just a waste of money and just makes it worse for the environment. Often times, I see many plastic bags on the streets and if the law is passed then it would help the environment a lot.

Everyone knows that plastic bag is a really convenient and handy tool. However, all the used bags and waste will eventually cause harm to our environment. The plastic sustance are not just really hard to burn but also contain poinsonous chemicals. As a result, plastic bags should be banned. People can just use paper bags instead. It is pretty much the same as a plastic bag but causes less harm to the environment.

Why need plastic when there's paper? However, many people would want to ban plastic bags all together to provide environmental support. But on the other hand, eliminating plastic bags and just being left with paper bags will increase the amount of tree loss due to processing paper bags. So environmentally speaking, there really is no way out with this kind of circumstance. It's a "pick your poison" kind of situation.

I agree with you 100%. Not only are plastic bags harmful to our environment, they also cannot be recycled. I don't see why grocery stores are not advocating brown paper bags, which are both recyclable and more durable than plastic bags. Our sources are limited and they can be put to better use than making plastic bags.

Although plastic bags can easily be rolled up and placed in a handbag, why can't people be inconvinienced slightly by using paper bags to keep costs down and the enviroment safe? but on the other hand if companies find them too expensiveto distribute, there shouldn't be a ban on plastic bags, but they should just simply take the responsibility to stop supplying them themselves.

i definately hope this bill is passed. we have enough biodegradeable resources that we can use in place of plastic bags. if this law is passed, although it will take time, i believe it will help the environment greatly.

I do not think that we shouldn't even use plastic bags. I want to ask companies who use plastic bags that is it easy or cheaper than paper bags to make plastic bags. There should be a reason. They should know that they cannot be recycled. I guess the bill will be passed.

Wow, I never would have thought that some day there would be a bill to ban plastic bags. I honestly don't know what will happen if this bill actually passes. Maybe it will help Europe on its way to a cleaner environment, or perhaps, they may find an even more harmful substitute. Either way this seems like a very intriguing bill and I hope it passes so the effects can be observed.
