Indiana Beer Keg Law

A law was enacted this monday this week in Indiana to help Indiana beer distributors. In the past, beer kegs owned by various beer distributors have been constantly stolen by thieves of the scrap market. Thieves are able to then sell the beer keg for 5 times the original price and gain profit from it. Liquor retailers are charged about 10-15 dollars per keg deposit to the distributors, the same amount to there customers, but with the missing kegs, brewerys will ask distributors to pay up to 9 times more then the original amount. To assure this shall be prevented in the state of Indiana, Indiana legislature passed a law that took into effect on Monday that makes it illegal for scrap market dealers to buy kegs with the name of a brewery. "If someone brings a scrap dealer a keg, they stole it," said Marc Carmicheal, president of the Indianopolis-based Indiana Beverage Alliance. Last year, 2804 kegs were stolen or lost throughout the Indiana based Beverage companies losing around 400,000 dollars. This is just an effort to prevent any more stealings, but is not a definite solution.

I like this bill that has been passed by the state of Indiana. It is a valiant effort to stop the stealing of kegs. People have the right to make a living, and it should not be interrupted by some thieves. With this bill being passed we can help assure the safety and the success of the people in the Indiana beverage business. Possibly this effort by Indiana will help influence other states to pass similar laws to stop the thieving of beer kegs and other beverage kegs. I agree with Mr. Krabs. If the people of Indiana want to make a living, they should find jobs--not make one out of stealing beer kegs (which is completely random, of all things!). I commend Indiana for placing a law over this, although it may seem so menial. It really will make a difference for the beer companies and probably the people who buy boot-legged beer kegs for a rip off price. With this bill enacted, maybe other states will initiate similar laws against stealing as well.

It's just like any other piece of property which should be protected from thieves. This bill should not be taken in just the sense of beer, but it should also be applied to any other acts of the sort.

this is a good bill. it seems the keg stealers got sticky fingers, and took a lot of money from the state of indiana. If this bill will help, then congratulations. at the same time though, i agree with cody.

I agree with this bill. There are way too many kegs being stolen. It seems to me that there was a great aount of money being stolen. The companies did not deserved to be robbed.

I completely agree with he sentiments posted above. I appreciate the passing of this bill because it is an attempt to stop a blatant display of thievery and this bill discourages those who support-or buy from-the thieves.
