House OKs Bill to Stiffen Penalties for Illegal Spyware Use

Spyware is a form of software that can collect information about a person or a business and can then send it to another computer. This is usually done with out the persons consent. Although it was created so that legitamate online companies could save information on their customer's preferences, the bill was passed in order to tighten security on the illegal users of spyware. Now, if caught illegally using spyware, it is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.

I definately think this bill is a smart idea and will prove to be effective. Spyware can lead to fraud and theft, and it is definately dangerous to leave it floating around without threatening to punish the users. This way, although it will probably still happen frequently, this way people will be more aware of what they are doing and hopefully use will eventually go down.

I too believe this bill is a great idea. It seems to me there are a great amount of scammers out there that need to be caught. This may prevent many people rom scamming others on the internet. This also will help our internet become safer and more secure.

I completely agree with this bill and I am glad to see that the government is finally doing something to try to fix the huge problem Spyware poses. The only thing I want changed about this bill is the punishment, I feel that they should actually increase the prison sentence. Spyware is a modern problem and I feel that the government should continue to attack it.

I think this law is a great idea but I think the punishment is too much. I don't think a person should have to be in prison for 5 years for this. I think 6 months to a year would be a better punishment.

This law is a good idea because something needs to be done about computer hackers. Too much valuable information is kept on computers these days and we need to protect people from hackers like these who use spyware.
