The Senate Confirms George Bush Nomination of George Wu as a Federal Judge

George Wu was recently confirmed by the United States Senate to the United States District Court. The Asian American community were very excited and pleased with his nomination by the President and his confirmation by the Senate. The Asian Pacific American Bar Association felt that Asians are underrepresented on the federal court. George Wu becomes one of six Asian judges on the federal court.
Federal judges are appointed by the President. This includes District Court Judges, Circuit Court of Appeal Justices and United States Supreme Court Justices. The appointment process is very long. First, the President must nominate a person as a federal judge. Then the person must go through a confirmation process and appear before the United States Senate for questioning. During this process the senate may confirm or reject the President's nominee. This is an example of check and balances. As a Chinese American, I am very happy that both the President and the Senate agreed on George Wu as a federal court judge because it is important that Asians are represented on the federal court.

I too, am very excited to have an Asian American serving in the federal court. The significance of Asians and other people of different ethnic backgrounds have increased tremendously over the years. It was once rare to see someone of the Asian race to have an important role in society, but the nomination of George Wu is evidence to say that our community is changing and giving more opportunities to its people. I believe George Wu will serve as a positive role model by motivating others with his accomplishment of becoming a federal judge.

This is a good news for improving equality for different diversities. As it is evident, African Americans, Hispanic, Jewish, and other races were promoting various rights and equalities in America while Asian Americans had slower reinforcement in such matter. I'm pleased that an Asian American is contributing to the government of the United States and hope George Wu will succeed in numerous matters.

I am glad to hear that an Asian American is given the opportunity to serve in the United States District Court. Having an Asian American as a federal judge demonstrates that America is open to different cultures and race. An opinion of a judge is hugely influenced by his or her background. This placement also shows that United States is still continuing to overcome segregation and is continuing to be diverse today. This also influences the younger generations to be involved in their society despite their cultural backgrounds. They are also reminded that they do have chances to represent themselves in the government, and they will have the power to make significant changes in our society.

Ethnic groups often face discrimination and racism. This is why people sometimes blame their nationality as a reason for not getting a job. That is great that George Wu got the position as a federal court judge. This shows how society is becoming more liberal and open-minded. People are realizing that not just people of certain races can get a job done sufficiently.
