Bush Threatens to Veto Democrats' Iraq Plan

The Bush Administration has threatened to veto an "aggressive, new [plan] to narrow U.S. involvement in Iraq" that was drawn up by the House Democrats because it "would undermine military efforts". This plan will ultimately end combat duties by Aug. 31, 2008 and could lead to withdrawals from Iraq by the end of the year. Additionally this plan would include "billions of dollars in new spending for military health care" and would have some money for the military operations in Afghanistan
Honestly, I feel that if Bush vetoes this plan it would be a huge mistake. American troops were originally sent to Iraq to find Bush's claimed "weapons of mass destruction"-which were nonexistent-and they should have returned home as soon it was confirmed that there were no W.M.D. This proposed plan by the House Democrats is the right course of action, for it is sparing the U.S. military from countless more unnecessary casualties.

I also think that the veto is an undeniable mistake. The US involvement in Iraq has increased to unbelievable proportions and it's about time to end this war. Personally knowing soldiers who have gone to Iraq and fought, I know how emotionally damaging it is for both the soldier and his/her loved ones. US should end the war ASAP and if it must admit defeat like with Vietnam, then so be it. Losing pride is less destructive than losing lives.

I don't believe in going to war unless we know we are going to win. But I am confused. Bush Threatens to Veto Democrats' Iraq Plan.

He is threatening us, but what does he want from us?

Anyway, he can't back out of the war now, it would make him look worse. What he is trying to do is to increase war efforts more and try to ultimately "win" the war, then possibly earn respect from the American People. He is limited to possibilities.

I am not saying I want the war to continue,in fact I am against this war, but I am explaining his actions.

But I actually think losing lives is less destructive than losing pride. Pride affects the whole nation and cannot be brought up unless we win another war.

I believe that the Democrats' Iraq Plan is a key aspect to end the War on Terrorism. The war itself has not eliminated any problems and has only added to the increasing number of causalities from both the United States and Iraq. This plan will help bring the war to a more peaceful end, and hopefully serve as a foundation to make efforts in seizing the war.

i highly disagree with bush's administration on vetoing this course of action, as mention before by patrick star it would save many many casualty lives and it would save the U.S. a-lot of money especially money that we do not have.

I disagree with bush because he knows that he is there for no good reason. why is he threatening? he should be a good president and not want war

Excellent point Patrick, I too believe that the U.S. involvement in Iraq has now taken its toll and it is time for us to evacuate the soldiers. It is unnecessary to have the soldiers there in the first place since no signs of W.M.D. were detected. The evacuation of soldiers can now decrease the amount of money spent on this war. I cannot understand what Bush's motive is by continuing to keep the soldiers in Iraq. Bush vetoing in this plan would be a selfish and pointless act. This plan is a start to ending the war or atleast U.S. involvment in Iraq. Its time to end the war, and this can be the beginning.

I totally gree with what you have to say. Ths pan could help save many lives and allow people to go home to their families. I like how a lot of money goes to health care. This could also help save many soiders lives. I feel that Bush is making a big mistake as well.

This plan in my opinion is a good idea. We have been at this war for many years and it is about time that our troops come home from Iraq.

I agree with Patrick Star. If the president vetoes the plan, it would definitely be a mistake and bring chaos to our society. Many families want their family members in war to come back home. The hard-working soldiers deserve to come back home. We also have been in war for quite awhile now and every year many lives are being lost as well. Although this plan would use a lot of money, it will benefit the soldiers and it will bring happiness to us to see our soldiers being less involved in the war.

This plan is necessary to stop the war so if Bush vetos this plan also, thats simply going to be a huge mistake. More deaths. Its simply unnessary.

It is no surprise that Bush vetoed the bill. I think that it would be unlikely for him to withdraw our troops during his term unless he is able find a believable excuse for the world to believe that the war is necessary and the right call.
