YouTube follows the campaign trail

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/la-et-webelect6jul06,1,3554147.story

The campaigns by the presidential candidates are now not only limited to their speeches and TV talks, but the campaigns are now extended to the use of Internet, such as YouTube. Looking back at the election of 2004, the Web Videos were not available during those days; YouTube was introduced three years ago. Therefore, in the election of 2008, the tactics of campaigning has been changed dramatically. For example, Amber Lee Ettinger, a.k.a. Obama Girl, who posted up her Web Video "I Got a Crush on Obama," has gotten more than two million hits in last three weeks. This is one of the most watched political videos this season. Some videos posted up don't have anything to do with the issues, but they are to familiarize the people with the candidates.

I believe the use of YouTube is actually beneficial to the election. Although some videos that are posted up have no relevance whatsoever with the issues of the candidates, through the use of YouTube, more people are allowed to get access to the issues of the candidates. More people are educated because of the use of YouTube. I think the benefit of using the YouTube outweighs its cost.

I also agree with you in saying that youtube is a beneficial factor toward the election. Because millions of people go to the website everyday it is certain that someone is going to see something related to the election. And in doing so it may help the candidate. It is also better than not doing anything at all.

I like how youtube can personalize the candidates. This new technological advance will serve as a great new tool for the candidate's image. Plus, since the public can also record videos on their cameras, we can catch the candidates whenever they do something immoral or if they do something generous and kind. The public will be able to see a side of the candidates that their campaign managers don't edit out.

this seems like a good idea. it is possible that it will provide the facts in a less serious manner, that will eliminate some of the bias and create a better environment for people to learn about the elections.

Technologically has truly advanced over the years. Not only have television and radio progressed this far, now the use of the Internet has become quite popular. I realize that some negative information can influence viewers of videos on YouTube and make fun of candidates but I also realize that much of the information can educate people about the candidates, helping them form their own opinions.

I think using YouTube for campaign purposes is a great idea for both the candidates and the citizens. The candidates will get another great source to voice their opinions. Also, a lot more citizens will be able to hear the opinions through this way.

I believe that youTube did a good thing by posting up election videos about presidential candidates. Millions of people go on youtube everyday and at least they could learn a little politics while on it.

I also think that using youtube to campaign is a good idea. It will be a lot easier for candidates and the candidates can have more time to think or improve their opinion to get public votes

Youtube has been a helpful site to view various types of videos and i think it'll be excellent that people can access the campaigns on the site. Youtube is as popular as chocolate and this can be a big hit for the campaigners and the youtube site. "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."

I agree with Nice Guy. YouTube has connected so many people to political issues, news, etc. It is a smart way for politicians to get noticed. However, posting up clips relating to presidential candidates may also be a negative thing. It all depends on the viewers and their ideologies.

But all in all, why not? Politicians have already resorted to MySpace, Facebook, etc.

I also agree with this because a lot of people know youtube and people actually watches them. I think this is a smart and beneficial way of campaigning. Also for the viewers, they can have easier access to learn and get updated on the news.

I think that to be elected, first, many people should know about the person and to get to know better, YouTube is really beneficial. Smart choice.

I think the supporters of some contenders should focus spreading the popularity through YouTube. It's very clever idea to use this widespread website to reinforce the image of the runners. I would post about a contender if I was totally going for that person in the election.
